For FHE, we had a lesson on serving others. We talked about ways to serve others as a family. The idea was presented by the kids (seriously) that we should clean up a local park. So, we decided to bike and walk down to the local park and do a trash pick up. It was surprising the response. All the kids, yes all of them were so excited to go find trash. They even got a neighborhood friend from across the street to participate. Yay for missionary work and service all in one!
Ethan and Ava seemed to be the most motivated. They ran from piece to piece of trash all over the field. While we were there, other kids were playing on the fields while we cleaned up around them. Before they left, I observed one of the boys pick up his trash and take it with him. I would like to think we set a good example for others to see. The kids had a great time. They posed with their trash bags....pay no attention to the little pieces under our feet in the picture. We almost got everything up.
On the way home from church today I noticed a bus stop down town that had a lot of trash around it. I commented that someone needs to clean it up. Ethan stated that we should clean it up. Maybe Liz and I have reached the kids on this lesson. Our hearts are full after teaching little principles of the gospel to our kids. Hope everyone is doing well.
We look forward to planning the Christmas vacation with you all and seeing you there...wherever that may take us! Let's get on it! Doggonnit!
